Selene - Youthful Innocence

"The curtain has fallen. Now how would you rate the play?"

Selene Liselore De Vries was born in Leiden on the 13th of June, 1981. She grew up in the family mansion together with her sister Soe who is 3 year her junior. The De Vries family is what you would call "old money". Living on the wealth that generations before them had gathered, the sisters never had to wish for anything.

Their father, Arjen de Vries, had always been prone to gambling and risky investments. After one went particularly sour they ended up losing most of their wealth. They were still able to live in the mansion, but it was slowly falling into decay because of lack of upkeep and maintenance.

Arjen definitely couldn't deal with this, and started coping by ways of an alcohol addiction. This only fueled his lust and rage, which he directed at his two daughters. Selene did everything in her power to protect her little sister but in doing so she caught the brunt of the abuse.

Matters got worse over the years, driving her mother Carolien in a deep psychosis, forcing her side of the family to put her in a mental hospital in Eastern Europe.

Despite losing most of his friends and business partners there was always one man, Sean Beckstrand, who would check in every few years. Especially often after the family's downfall.

At this point, a few years before the sisters Embrace, Soe had moved to Amsterdam leaving only Selene in the family mansion. She stayed there in fear, fear of her father seeking out her sister again if she would leave.

One day when Mr. Beckstrand was visiting, Selene was shocked to see her little sister bound up in the living room.

Her father simply muttered something about there being no other choice. The sisters only caught the tail end of the transaction before their future Sire took them both away to be Embraced in his studio in the city center of Amsterdam.

Here the sisters would be unwillingly introduced to their  new lives as Toreador fledgelings

As horrible an act as their father had committed, life with their Sire was, for better or worse, not as bad as their lives before. And they also were together, again.

They took to their new lives surprisingly well and for a few short years things seemed to be looking up.

That was, until their Sire decided to make good on his investment and intended to use Soe as an escort for some of his clients with .. less than savory needs.

Selene, determined to protect her sister from this fate ever again, staked her Sire and left him out in the sun, telling Soe some vague story about an accident.

From this moment on they inherited most of Mr. Beckestrand's property and took residence in one of his studio's in Central Amsterdam.

  2. Sad ,how many lost destinies it takes to elevate the future of some, over the simplicity of life. Strong families are not defined by the value of their wealth, but rather by the bonding , in crisis situations. It is no real liberation for Selene, but it is a better flight for her to belong to the Toreador as not have any safety, even if her actual life ends, it begins a new journey for her. I feel a slight contamination, of the storyline through their own experiences of the writer. But that can't be prevented by creating new characters, they are all part of a bigger universe , or the actual soul which unites the whole behind it.

  3. Another great story- or should I say, another great history lesson. It`s interesting to know that Selene is still a really young fledgeling. (compared to Alicia) I thought she seemed a little bit more human, I mean, despite her eyes being red, you know. Also, I`ve heard tale of this Soe before. Another character in the Toreador story line,,,,,Maayyybeee?
